The 1986 fantasy puppet film Labyrinth has had a resurgence of attention, after the death of human villain David Bowie a few weeks ago. The memories of Jim Henson, George Lucas and Terry Jones' collaboration with Bowie, young Jennifer Connelly and a gaggle of puppets have gotten so strong, TriStar Pictures allegedly announced plans to remake them on Jan. 22.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, TriStar has hired original Guardians of the Galaxy writer and future Captain Marvel co-writer Nicole Perlman to write a script for a Labyrinth reboot. However, Perlman went on Twitter to post a series of tweets on the matter herself.

It took a while for Labyrinth to be a childhood favorite for many people and an alleged reboot candidate, since it was actually a box office bomb in 1986 despite Henson directing, Jones writing the script, Lucas producing it and Bowie headlining it as the evil Goblin King. Nonetheless, its cult reputation has built over the decades and has been cemented in the aftermath of Bowie's death.

Further proof came when the YouTube channel Screen Junkies gave the original one of their "Honest Trailers" just a few days earlier.

Other important collaborators in the original were the Froud family, as Brian Froud designed the concepts and costumes, Wendy Froud helped make the puppets and their son Toby was the baby brother kidnapped by the Goblin King in the first place. However, Toby Froud went on Aint It Cool News to say that his family hadn't been contacted about any remake plans.

Hello Labyrinth fans - Brian, Wendy and myself would all like to say that we know nothing about a Henson, Labyrinth "Reboot" although it's just been called to our attention. What ever is happening - is happening without our knowledge - but it's not up to us then, is it. We do hope to be included if this is going to happen - but we'll let you know if we find out.

A lot clearly still needs to be worked out if they ever do decide to put the Labyrinth back together one day -- let alone figure out who could fill Bowie's shoes and wigs in ruling it.
