Affleck and Middleton Launch Full-Scale Production Company for Film and Television with John Ridley at Helm

June 9, 2014 (Hollywood, CA) -- Producer John Powers Middleton (Oldboy, A&E’s Bates Motel, The Lego Movie) and writer, director, producer and Oscar-nominated actor Casey Affleck (Gone Baby Gone, Out of the Furnace) officially announced today that they will be launching the Untitled Casey Affleck/John Powers Middleton Project, a production company that will create films and television series spanning a wide variety of genres and budgets.  With the formation of this new partnership, Affleck will serve as an equal share producer, while continuing to pursue writing, acting, and directing projects.  Middleton will produce under the new banner while continuing to also produce at Vertigo Entertainment and Good Universe.

“We couldn't be more excited to embark on this new adventure.  We've been discussing this for some time now, recognizing our similar taste in content and company landscape, and I know we're both thrilled to finally bring it to fruition,” said Middleton. “We want to bring audiences the films they want to see.  Casey has such meticulous, exacting and extraordinary vision.   In baseball terminology, he's a true five-tool player: a brilliant writer, actor, director, producer, and, maybe most importantly, a brilliant company builder.   I couldn't ask for a better partner. I look forward to many years of creative and business collaboration."

“John loves filmmakers and the filmmaking process.  His work ethic and great taste have earned him the respect of everyone he has worked with,” Affleck said.  “I look forward to the experience of producing with him.”

The partners have named John Ridley as the venture’s President of Production.  Ridley previously served as Vice President of Development and Production at Appian Way, where he oversaw numerous film projects, including Live By Night, Twilight Zone, Blood On Snow, Devil in the White City, and Mean Business on North Ganson Street.  Prior to joining Appian, Ridley served as an executive at Warner Bros., overseeing The Ballad of Richard Jewell at FOX, The Shining Girls at MRC, and oversaw post-production of Out of the Furnace at Relativity. On the television side, Ridley managed the Charles Manson Miniseries at TNT, the Untitled Q-Tip Project at F/X, the Untitled Betty Ford Miniseries for NBC, and The Natural History Specials at Discovery Channel.

“Ridley is the perfect addition to our team,” said Affleck. “At Appian Way, he worked with two of the best in the business; coupled with his tenure at Warner Brothers, his experience is unrivaled.  He is widely respected, very smart, and well liked in the industry.  We are lucky to have him.”

Alex Foster will serve as VP, Production for the company.

Affleck is represented by WME and television.   For legal, Affleck is represented by Sam Fischer of Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie, Stiffelman & Cook.
