The first trailer for Despicable Me 3 set the sequel up as a battle between Gru and Trey Parker's new 80s themed villain. But the latest trailer reveals an even more personal conflict for the villain turned hero, namely with a new twin brother that tempts him to go evil again.

This trailer introduces Gru, his family and the rest of the audience to Dru, another character with a bizarre foreign accent from Steve Carell, far more hair and far more commitment to staying evil.

It appears the first trailer was merely for the opening act, as Gru's failure against Parker's Balthazar Blatt is now revealed to have gotten him fired from the Anti-Villain League. As such, he has far more time on his hands to find out about his more successful brother and get lured back into the family business.

At the least, the Minions are far more thrilled about it than Gru, as they are still eager to play a supporting role for villains even after their star turn in Minions. Other recurring Illumination Entertainment elements like the voices of Kristen Wiig, Jenny Slate and Steve Coogan are also heard again in the trailer as well.

Yet this wave of marketing is clearly focused on the brothers Gru, as the film's new poster also reinforces.

Despicable Me 3 is actually the second animated threequel that's coming out this June, two weeks after Cars 3. Between that and having Spider-Man: Homecoming out the next week, the window for Illumination to continue its string of big hits is a bit narrow.

Nevertheless, two Carell characters and more will try to make Despicable Me lovable for a third time on June 30.
