The Jurassic World Sequel has three returning actors in Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and B.D. Wong, and two newcomers in Toby Jones and Rafe Spall. However, the newcomers evened things up when Justice Smith became the newest addition to the cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

While the Reporter didn't say who Smith was playing, Variety later claimed that he would be playing "a young scientist." Given that scientists haven't had the best track record in the franchise, including Wong's Dr. Wu, this may not spell good things for Smith's character.

Still, Smith could be young enough not to make the mistakes his older peers have with dinosaurs. Youngsters do have a good track record of actually surviving in this series, although the kids of Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World were much younger than the 21-year-old Smith. But if Claire Dearing's niece and nephew don't come back, Smith would perhaps be the youngest one in the cast.

Smith got on the radar this past summer for Netflix and Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down, a.k.a. Netflix's other summer series besides Stranger Things. Beforehand, his only experience on the big screen was in last summer's Paper Towns with Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff.

When Jones and Spall were cast a few weeks ago, Variety claimed that "two other key roles in the project" were being tested before they were added. Now that Smith is on board, there may be just one more important new character left to cast.

That role and others will likely be cast soon, as the movie will start filming sometime after the new year. Director turned producer and co-writer Colin Trevorrow is already getting a head start, having posted Howard's upcoming collection of shoes on Twitter without a much mocked high heel in sight.

The shoes, new characters and the actual dinosaurs of the Jurassic World Sequel will appear on screen on June 22, 2018.
