Bloody Red Band 'Alien: Covenant' Trailer Premieres On Christmas Morning

The build up for the first Alien: Covenant trailer pretty much played out like the 12 Days of Christmas, with photos and other different teasers released up until the big day. But on Christmas morning, 20th Century Fox and Ridley Scott finally released the present everyone really anted, and drenched it in red for good measure.

The bloody and at one point foul mouthed red band trailer is now online, and won't be safe to play in work after the holiday.

There are only a few early glimpses of Michael Fassbender, one of which has him near a piano like in the last teaser photo. But he isn't sporting the blond, Peter O'Toole modeled look of Prometheus android David, as it looks like the Fassbender in the trailer is his new upgraded android Walter.

Of course, there are no real specific plot spoilers about Fassbender's characters, what happened to David and Elizabeth Shaw after Prometheus, and how the crew of the Covenant find either David or Walter on a seemingly ideal new world. Nonetheless, there is room for very familiar Alien hallmarks, such as a face hugging alien jumping out, the face of a fully grown Xenomorph before it attacks in the shower, and male captain Billy Crudup not listening to the skepticism of new female lead Katherine Waterston.

After the trailer was released, embargoed interviews with Waterston from Fox's recent showcase of 2017 movies were posted as well. Waterston told ComicBook.com that her character of Daniels is on the Covenant as a "chief terraformist" and "space gardener" for this crew of colonists looking for a new world. But in the Alien tradition, she "finds that she has guts that she didn't know she had" albeit in a "very different" way than Ripley did, despite the obvious Ripley comparisons that were made from Waterston's preview photos.

Waterston also told Empire Magazine before the trailer premiere that unlike Ripley, Daniels is "in a survival mode of sorts from the beginning" where she shows herself as "a natural leader."

Revealing the rest of Alien: Covenant may or may not be as much of a slow burn as the countdown to the first trailer was. Yet the final countdown to the movie will end on May 19, 2017.
